Rodent Tuber - Traditional Medicine for Cancer

The causes of cancer in general are classified into two categories. External risk factors come from the environment outside the human body, which include unhealthy habits such as smoking and bad diet. We can easily avoid these causes by adopting a healthier lifestyle such as eating healthy and maintaining regular exercise. On the other hand, internal risk factors include genetic mutations, which cannot be prevented. However, some efforts can be done to help us prevent and even treat cancer.

Some cancers are treatable, and there are many ways to treat them. There are conventional medical treatments such as chemotherapy and radiotherapy. These kinds of treatment often come with side effects. On the other hand, there are also alternative treatments using natural substances. Many plants are considered to possess anti-cancer properties, and one of them is the Typhonium flagiliforme.

Typhonium flagiliforme is the scientific name for the plant which is locally known as the Rodent Tuber. This plant belongs to the Araceae family and it can only grow up to 25-30 cm. It is usually found in South East Asia, and grows in a humid habitat, away from sunlight. Its leaves are green and have spade-shaped like betel leaves. The rodent tuber has been proven to cure various types of cancer such as breast cancer, colon cancer, rectal cancer, leukemia, prostate cancer, cervical cancer and lung cancer.

Scientifically, the leaves of the rodent tuber have three major substances that have anti-cancer properties. First, ribosome inactivating protein which weakens cancer cells, thus inhibiting their growth. Second, antioxidant agent which protects our body from free radicals. Last but not least, curcumin which has anti-inflammatory properties. The combination of these substances helps maintain a strong immune system to fight against cancer cells.

The rodent tuber is an affordable alternative cancer treatment and it has no known adverse effects. This plant also reduces the side effects of radiotherapy and chemotherapy, and helps cancer patients recover faster. It should be grown organically, without the addition of harmful chemical fertilizers or pesticides.

The rodent tuber does not only benefit cancer patients, but it also benefits cancer specialists, herbal practitioners and pharmacists. This multi-purpose plant also used to provide relief from cough and asthma, and to cure hemorrhoid as well. Other usages of the rodent tuber are for detoxification, to get rid of boils and pus, heal vaginal discharge, reduce swelling, stop bleeding, ease pain, clean up the digestive system and improve health.

Cancer And The Power Of Belief

According to the laws of quantum physics, in any scientific experiment the observer (a researcher) influences and alters the object of observation on a very fundamental level (observer-observed relationship). This fundamental principle of physics applies to you just as much. After all, your body is composed of molecules that are made of atoms; these atoms are composed of subatomic particles, which in turn, are made of energy and information. There is actually not even a trace of matter in what we consider physical creation. Although something may appear to be as solid and concrete as a rock, there is nothing solid about it; only your sensory perception makes it appear so.

Your thoughts also are merely forms of energy and information that influence other forms of energy and information, including the cells of your body. For example, if you are sad about something that happened to you, your body posture changes and your eyes lose their luster. Eye cells, like all other cells in the body, respond to your thoughts as a soldier follows the orders of his superior.

Therefore, if you believe strongly enough that you have cancer or if you are afraid of it, you face a significant risk of manifesting it in your body.

The placebo effect can work both ways. The belief that you have a deadly disease can be just as powerful as the belief that a certain medical drug can heal you. In an instant, the energy of your thoughts and beliefs delivers the information they contain to every cell in your body. The energy and information that make up the atoms, molecules, genes, cells, organs and systems in your body have no agenda of their own. They are certainly not malicious. All they do is follow orders. You manifest both what you like and what you do not like. In other words, you are what you believe. Furthermore, what you believe is determined by the way you see or perceive things. Clearly, your interpretation of cancer as a disease will likely turn it into a disease for you. Otherwise, cancer would just be a survival mechanism or a signal for you to take care of those aspects of your life that you have neglected thus far.

If you believe that cancer is a disease, you are more likely to be inclined to fight against it, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. If you are strong-willed and the weapons you are using are powerful, you may be able to subdue this 'enemy' of yours, at least for a while. In such a case, you will be proud of having 'beaten' the cancer and, perhaps, you will praise the doctors or the medical treatment you endured for having saved your life. If you are weak and you use these same weapons in an attempt to destroy the cancer, you are likely going to succumb to what you would consider a malicious enemy. The doctor will express with regret that your body did not sufficiently 'respond' to the treatment (the weapons), claiming that he tried everything and that nothing more could be done. He will neglect to inform you that the weapons he has put into your body can be deadly.

Chemotherapy is so poisonous that leaking a few drops of the drug onto your hand can severely burn it. If drops fall on a concrete floor, they can burn holes into it. Spilling any chemotherapeutic drug in the hospital or anywhere en route is classified as a major biohazard and it requires specialists with space-suits to dispose of it.

Just imagine the holes chemotherapy creates inside your blood vessels, lymphatic ducts, and organ tissues when you undergo infusion after infusion! I have looked at the irises of patients (using iridology) who have gone through chemotherapy, and I saw the considerable erosion and damage of tissues throughout the body. Yes, this drug destroys cancer cells, but along with them, many of your healthy cells, too. Your entire body becomes inflamed. For this reason, your hair falls out when you undergo chemotherapy or radiation, and you cannot digest food anymore. Many patients develop anorexia - the loss of appetite or desire to eat. But this is not the only risk you can expect from modern cancer therapies. "Chemotherapy and radiation can increase the risk of developing a second cancer by up to 100 times," according to Dr. Samuel S. Epstein ~ Congressional Record, Sept. 9, 1987.

Given the extreme suffering cancer patients are being subjected to by undergoing cancer treatments, people like Jackie Onassis were fortunate to have died quickly, although unnecessarily. Tim O'Shea wrote in To The Cancer Patient: "...Chemo drugs are some of the most toxic substances ever designed to go into a human body, their effects are very serious, and are often the direct cause of death. Like the case of Jackie Onassis, who underwent chemo for one of the rare diseases in which it generally has some beneficial results: non-Hodgkins lymphoma. She went into the hospital on Friday and was dead by Tuesday."

I have personally seen cancer patients who successfully and naturally reversed their cancers but were then talked into taking a round of chemotherapy just to be sure to "get it all". They all died within a day or two of the first treatment.

The methods of modern medicine don't fight disease, they fight the body. Disease is the body's way of healing itself, and modern treatment is a sure way to impair or even destroy this ability.

The Psychology of Cancer Management

It is best that we can come to an understanding regarding the nature of those cells that our clinicians determine to be "cancerous" and how the behaviour of those cells impacts on our lives. I use the word "lives" quite deliberately here and not the singular because the very diagnosis of this illness, immediately impacts on our family, our friends and acquaintances and even upon those people who we are yet to meet.

It is an unfortunate fact that the very word cancer, carries with it an implicit warning of our mortality. Indeed, many among us have a pre-conceived notion that a diagnosis of cancer is a pre-determined announcement of impending death. This notion, I have observed, is quite common until such diagnosis becomes personal, where-upon an almost instantaneous determination to live comes about.

When working with people with a diagnosis of cancer, I have frequently observed that, no matter what their conscious observations are, they see cancer as some kind of entity. Ask them to draw their cancer in an art therapy session, and invariably we see drawings and sketches of some kind of beastly thing. We see shark like creatures with razor sharp teeth ready to attack the patient's normal, healthy being, we see prison bars implying that the patient is helpless to do anything about their condition - almost never, do we see drawings of beauty. A diagnosis of cancer weighs heavily upon us.

We need to educate ourselves about the behaviour of the cells that our doctors have determined to be cancerous. We need to understand that cancer cells are simply normal cells that have quite simply, lost the programming to, well, behave normally. And that is that they have "forgotten" to die and are caught in the replicating loop of their life cycle. This programmed death of cells is referred to medically as apoptosis and may be implicated in the beginning and the spread of cancer. cancer cells were once normal cells that may have had damage to their DNA and the body's immune system, would normally dispose of them in just the same way as it would for any other abnormality. It is not only a matter of getting rid of these cancer cells, but allowing our immune system to be able to identify them as abnormal and so dispose of them in the normal way.

Given that what I have said here may be true, we have identified then, at least two areas on which to concentrate and those are the areas of diet and the psychological aspect of life with cancer.

I have spoken previously of diet and so, today, I would like to begin to address the way in which we think about the aspects of this illness and who it affects our life.

We need to become empowered. Many people, when experiencing an illness - any illness, tend toward victimhood. Just look at almost any man when he gets a cold. Men are always certain that no one else could have ever felt as bad as they feel now, with this cold or flu. They become victims and why not? Doesn't everyone else feel sorry for them (at least for a short while) and look after them? Fetch their meals, get their medications, fluff up their pillow. Feels good, this victim-hood. Feels like something that could go on for a while - and sometimes it does. Sometimes being a victim has it's rewards. People do things for us, empathise where little empathy had previously been shown. It is comforting to know that people feel for us, we feel, somehow, valued. It's easy to stay here, being the victim, being the centre of attention. The trouble is that being a victim, takes away our power. This state of mind is exactly the opposite of the state of mind we need in order to heal.

When we do not understand something, we gain understanding within the context of our unique experiences. For example, if we see cancer as an illness that is not curable then that becomes our understanding with little likelihood of reversal of those expectations. Your definition of cancer will be that it is a death sentence, unless your knowledge base regarding the disease and it's implications is not broadened to include the possibility that people do survive, that long term relief is possible and that people who experience the illness can lead vastly improved lives through it's intervention.

Knowledge is the key here.

Like most things in life, goals need to be set. It's fine to conceptualise the prospect of long-term survival, but unless there are goals set to do certain things in order to achieve such survival, then it will remain only a dream. We need to approach our survival as a process of pre-determined steps to prevent our illness becoming our life. I have seen many people become defined by their illness, just as others may be defined by their sexuality or social status. These people are victims and powerless to be or do anything else, other than who they are or where they are, because of where they are in their head.

If you want something different, set your goals, specifically, in written form, including all of the emotions that you can muster. Be those goals, see yourself at the place where they lead you. Experience, in your mind, all of the emotions and senses that will be involved when you achieve them. Feel what it is like to once again be healthy and fit. How do you feel in that moment? What will you do? Where do you want to go, now that you are well? How does that make you feel? As Jim Rohn said, this is like the set of your sails. The set of your sails will take you on your journey. Have a destination in mind and focus on that destination. Don't feel compelled to stay on the first course that you set. Many trips are altered as we go along. It's the destination that is important, as well as the experiences along the way.

Be in charge of your healing, because the power that this places you in is the antithesis of hopelessness and helplessness. Having a sense of you own personal power gives you control of your life.

Your life really is in your hands now.

Good luck, and until next time, may your God watch over you.

Drinking to Cure Cancer?

Sounds great! Sign me up! Whether you have a particular cause you like to support or if you feel better knowing that the ridiculous price you paid for a drink went toward something more than just your buzz, look for these labels next time you make a purchase.

Pints for Prostates-
Pints for Prostates- "Reaching men through the universal language of beer"- In 2008, Rick Lyke, a prostate cancer survivor, founded his organization with the goal being to raise awareness of the need for regular health screenings and PSA testing. He began making appearances at beer festivals, social networking and pro-bono advertising. The company has since registered at a 501(c)3 charity and 100% of all funds raised by the group go to fighting prostate cancer and assisting men with the disease.

Cleavage Creek-
Cleavage Creek Winery is owned and operated by Budge Brown, a man who in 2005 lost his wife of 48 years, Arlene, to breast cancer. After devastation turned to anger and then to determination, Budge Brown began using his newly acquired label to wage his attack against breast cancer. Ten percent of gross sales are donated to cutting edge research to find a cure for breast cancer. Each bottle bears the face of a breast cancer survivor and their stories can be found on the Cleavage Creek website.

Crawl for Cancer-
Crawl for Cancer is an organization that was founded by a group of friends who wanted to have fun while helping those affected by cancer. All of their profits go to the charities they serve. Additionally, for every item purchased on their website, a donation is made to one of the Crawl for Cancer charities. Currently "crawling" in 24 cities in the U.S., they are always looking for new locations and organizers of events.

Hook and Ladder Beer-
Hook and Ladder Brewing Company is one of the fastest growing craft beer companies in the United States. Born in the kitchen of a volunteer firefighter, Hook and Ladder succeeds by delivering an excellent beer while, at the same time, giving back to burned firefighters and burn survivors in communities across America. Their programs; A Penny in Every Pint and A Quarter in Every Case, have provided more than $60,000 to burn treatment centers in neighboring communities since 2005.

Charity Case Wines-
The Charity Case Foundation was conceived by a group of Napa Valley winemakers. All fruit and juice used in the preparation of a Charity Case wine is donated by Napa Valley wineries. All net proceeds are then given to non-profit organizations serving children and families in Napa County. Each year, the organizations are chosen anew to provide raised donations to those in need.

Finnegan's Irish Amber-
Finnegan's has donated 100% of it's profits through their Finnegan's Community Fund since 2003. More than $150,000 in grants has been given to non-profits across the Midwest to support life-changing programs for the working poor. They currently are producing just one type of beer but will be rolling out new products sometime in 2011.

OneHope Wine-
OneHope Wines may be the most recognizable of charitable wine labels in the country. It has even been served at The Grammy's, The American Red Cross Gala, the BAFTA's, Sundance Film Festival and VH1 Save the Music. Since the inception in 2007, they have raised more than $400,000 for a wide range of charitable organizations by donating %50 of their profits.

Torchlight Cellars-
Torchlight Cellars claims to put their "profit behind your passion." Together with the staff of Torchlight and their award-winning winemaker, a special bottle is created and labeled for your particular cause. It's quite a versatile idea. I wouldn't be surprised if a Bridezilla tries to get a hold of it to raise money for her wedding. Hopefully only those hoping to help others will use the service!

Cancer and Vitamin D - To Take Or Not To Take?

It has been known for many years of the mood altering effects that a lack of Vitamin D causes in people, many of us are familiar with the 'Winter Blues" and some suffer more severely with long-term seasonal disorders or depression. However as the data on this vitamin mounts, more and more research projects are linking the lack of this simple vitamin to many of today's life threatening ailments.

Many or our most prevalent diseases like Cancer, Heart Disease or Diabetes are all showing up in greater numbers, in people with low levels of Vitamin D. Recent studies of Breast Cancer indicate that the risk could be as much as EIGHT times more for an aggressive form of the disease, in women whose Vitamin D levels are low. Bone density problems are also much more severe in women with low levels of Vitamin D, prompting many doctors to now recommend Vitamin D supplements for menopausal women.

A study published last year by the University of Tennessee show that a whopping 87% of the American population are Vitamin D deficient. Here in Canada and other more northerly countries you can probably assume (unless you are taking supplements), that you are deficient in this vital vitamin, for most of the year.

While many health agencies are slowly getting on board with the MANY benefits of Vitamin D, they are still underselling the amounts needed to maintain health, let alone fight disease.

Given that we know of many diseases (please see list below) that sufficient Vitamin D helps to prevent or even heal and given that you now know you are probably not getting enough.

How much should you take and what sort of Vitamin D?

(Oh yes there are different types and not all will help you, in fact some are a pure waste of money).

Clearly the best type is from safe, daily exposure to the sun and if you live along equatorial belts, this would be ideal but for the rest of us, we need to supplement.

The Vitamin D that your own body produces is called D3 or Choleciferol and unless it states that on the label, dont bother! Most good health food stores will stock a good quality D3, just make sure you check the labels.

D3 is the only form of Vitamin D that will help you if you are serious about your health.

The dose recommended by health authorities is 400 iu's for a normal person and 800 iu's for the elderly or the sick... HOWEVER, this is generally regarded by most experts as being way too low and would no more help protect your bones than a couple of minutes in the sun. 30 minutes of sun block free, exposure to the sun and your skin would produce around 10,000 - 50,000 iu's of Vitamin D and this is considered by most experts to be a good daily guild for sun worship; so you can see how silly the recommend dose of 400 iu's looks.

As I have had breast cancer in the past, if I do not get outside during the day, I take between 2000-4000 iu's a day depending on the season. I know however of people who take up to 8000 iu's daily with no ill effect.

Below I have listed a few of the conditions/diseases in which low levels of Vitamin D3 plays a role; you will see that few of us are immune from the harmful effects of Vitamin D deficiency.

The upside however, is that this really is so easy, cheap and safe to correct!

See you on the bright side.

Coach Lin
For Your Information:-

Breast Cancer:- Women with Vitamin D blood serum level less than 50 nmol/ml are EIGHT times more likely to develop an aggressive form of breast cancer.

Bone Density is weaker in women with low levels of Vitamin D

Colon Cancer risk is cut by 40% if Vitamin D levels are High.

Heart Disease, Stroke and Cognitive Decline all are twice as likely if levels are low.

And a whopping 91% of Diabetics have low levels of Vitamin D in their blood, in fact the less vitamin D the more blood sugar problems increase.
HEALTH DISCLAIMER: Please note I am not a doctor and any hints or tips I provide are guides based on my own experience and research. You should always consult your doctor before starting any sort of dietary supplement.

Renal Cancer Survival Rate

Since the kidneys are amongst the most vital organs of the body, cancer growing in these parts is also quite dangerous. Amidst the growing number of studies conducted to combat the progression of this disease, the over-all average renal cancer survival rate has only slightly improved in the recent years. As per the latest studies conducted by the cancer research societies, the renal cancer survival rate in the United States is still around 60-65%.

A 5 year renal cancer survival rate refers to the percentage or number of patients who were able to remain living five years after they were diagnosed with cancer of the kidneys. These patients are all treated and have undergone surgery as well.

As we all know, we have 2 kidneys in our body. In some renal cancer cases, only one kidney may be affected of the cancer while the other wouldn't. In these cases, removal of the affected part may be recommended since the functioning kidney will still be able to continually do its work alone.

If the cancer is detected as early as stage 1, the better the prognosis. Patients diagnosed at this stage have more than 90% chances of surviving so long as recommended treatment is properly given.

As the cancer remains adamant on its progression, the more the prognosis may become quite low. Once the cancer moves outward and invades the surrounding tissues, the more difficult to control and remove it through surgery. At the last stage, once the cancer starts eating up vital organs near the kidneys, the rate of survival was reported to be at 10% - meaning 1 out of 10 patients reaches 5 years after being diagnosed.

Kidney cancer is slowly developed and not the type that spurts out of nowhere. It is the cause of unhealthy diet and constant abuse of the kidneys. Since this type of cancer is slow in the making, most patients don't detect it until they reached the later years of their lives - often around 45-55 years old. And the bad thing is, at this time, the cancer could be already in a critical stage.

It's true that despite the high renal cancer survival rate of patients whose cancer is detected early, not all cancer patients experience the benefits of having their disease treated on the first stage because only 50% of kidney cancer patients are determined at stage 1. A large number of cases are only detected at stages 2-4 when the cancer has grown enough to be confined.

Stomach Cancer Survival Rates - Know Your Survival Chances

A stomach cancer survival rate is the percentage of patients who were able to survive 5 years or more after they were diagnosed with the cancer. Most survival percentage reports are based on the cancer stages and the same goes for stomach cancer. Sometimes, a patient gets confused with these cancer survival percentage charts because sometimes the doctor may tell them the percentage of survival based on studies conducted on a large scale of people instead of the survival rate of the patient himself.

As a patient, you must know that a doctor may never be able to predict your life expectancy after your diagnosis is confirmed. Therefore, asking for your survival rate may be a bit awkward and appropriate. However, they may give you their honest opinion. When you ask for the percentage of survival with this type of cancer, your doctor will give you an answer based on statistical reports. And usually, they prefer giving the answer depending on the stage of cancer you're currently into.

Basically, there are 4 stages of stomach cancer. But since stages 1-2 have 2 phases under each stage and stage 3 has 3 phases, it actually looks like the whole cancer development has 8 phases in total, with each phase having different Stomach Cancer Survival Rate.

Cancer, in general, has the highest rate of survival at the earliest stage and will then dramatically lower as the cancer progresses towards a more severe stage. In the case of cancer of the stomach, the earliest stage is Stage 1A. A report released by the National Cancer Institute's SEER database shows Stomach Cancer Survival Rates in accordance to their corresponding stage and phase.

The percentage of survival for any types of cancer is measured either in a 10 year or a 5 year period but more researchers are using the latter. The statistical report shown below is derived from the study conducted by the National Cancer Institute in the US from the years 1991 to 2001. The people studied are those with stomach cancers who have been given treatment including surgery.

In a 5 year time period, the Stomach Cancer Survival Rate in 5 years after being diagnosed with gastric cancer are as follows:

? 71% of patients suffering from Stage 1A survived
? 57% of patients suffering from Stage 1B survived
? 45% of patients suffering from Stage 2A survived
? 33% of patients suffering from Stage 2B survived
? 20% of patients suffering from Stage 3A survived
? 14% of patients suffering from Stage 3B survived
? 9% of patients suffering from Stage 3C survived
? 4% of patients suffering from Stage 4 survived

Cancer Changes Everything

At the moment of cancer diagnosis, there is a marker in life, which bookmarks personal time as either Before Cancer or After Cancer.

But before that, there is the in-between time, when you don't quite know what is happening. You may have experienced troubling symptoms for some time, followed by lab work or medical exams. Or, it may have all started with a routine trip to the doctor - you were told that something seems suspicious or wrong. "How long has this lump been there?" After that, you may have gone through more visits and more tests, several weeks apart.

So at the time of receiving the definitive news of cancer, you have already been feeling fear, dread, confusion - many unpleasant feelings. While waiting for test results, you might have been counting on relief or expecting the worst. While waiting, we usually cope in the way that is most familiar, using our habits and patterns of thinking and feeling. If you are upbeat, you probably stayed that way. If you are more like Eeyore in Winnie the Pooh, you probably have been feeling dark and dismal.

If you went through all of the tests, and the "all clear" was sounded, then the emotion of this experience will recede and ongoing life is not interrupted too much. However, even this near-diagnosis experience frequently has a powerful emotional result - "The time I almost had cancer, I really imagined what that was like." And life changes a little, sometimes actually for the better. Life seems more precious, with a hopeful and fresh future.

But if you received bad news, you will be experiencing shock, trauma, loss, grief, fear or confusion. Although there's a lot to do down the line to feel better, to be hopeful, optimistic, informed... at the beginning, it's just a nightmare. You are most likely numb, confused, worried or hyper-focused on only one aspect of the information. You could even be wondering what all the uproar is about, and sure that everything will be fine.

Some people experience the sense of the wind knocked out of them, dizziness or enormous sadness. There's a loss that life will never be the same again. Life After Cancer. No planning for life lasting forever, which it doesn't anyway, but we pretend. At the beginning of this journey, no one has any accurate idea if life will be shortened from cancer, but it is almost always a first fear. Cancer changes everything.

There are so many unknowns. At a time when you desperately want information about illness and treatment, and outcomes, there are frequently delays in getting that useful information. It takes time to get in to the doctor for medical appointments and time to get in for specialized tests. Waiting for more results is very challenging. You will be waiting with very little information for days or weeks at a time when you need some concrete information and direction. Even if you are very skilled at getting appointments, even if you have a friend who can help, it's hard to navigate the system and wait it out.

Around the time of diagnosis, people and their friends and family often try to feel better by doing research on the internet. At some point, using the internet to get medical information, find doctors and explore different treatment options works very well. At the beginning it can lead to more fear and less clarity. You will find information that is untrue, overly dramatic, holding false promises or simply not applicable to your situation.

In a few weeks you will have a better perspective on what sources are reputable, what empty promises of cure look like and which practitioners are the best in your area. If you hold off on internet explorations for a while, you will likely feel better in the first days and weeks after diagnosis. If you need to ground yourself in information, make sure that you seek out reputable, credible and well-established sites.

Is The Mind Powerful Enough to Heal Cancer Naturally?

I believe that your body responds to what you are thinking. We know when we are under stress we feel bad and too much stress can make us sick as it depresses our immune system. Some get cancer from stress, but when we are positive and happy we feel that we can do anything and usually achieve whatever it is we want.

Back in 1979 my father was diagnosed with colon cancer at 51 years of age. I looked after him at home and we did everything we could in the way of diets, hypnotherapy and meditation. Unfortunately, these were the days before we had all the information at our fingertips through the internet. I devoted myself everyday to the job of getting my dad well again, but he only got worse. He died within 6 months of diagnosis but not before telling me that although we were doing all these positive things, deep down he did not think they were going to work for him. He also said that he never thought he would see 1980.

Well, his predictions came true and it made no difference what I said or did, it happened anyway. Could he have lived had he thought differently?

When I started the crusade for myself after my breast cancer diagnosis in 2008 I searched and researched until I found something that I felt was right for me. I was so positive that what I was doing was going to cure me, it did.

That doesn't mean necessarily that the protocol I chose is for everyone either, but there are many, many alternative remedies (at least 400) for a cancer cure and each one has been successful for thousands of people. The secret is to find the right one for you and when you do, your mind takes over the job of healing because you know it will work.

Unfortunately the medical establishment is stuck in the rut of surgery, radiation and chemotherapy and we know that most of the time those treatments are not successful in the long term.

So it is really up to us to be pro-active and take control over our own lives and do what we want for ourselves. If you want chemo then that is perfectly OK, if not then whatever it is you choose for yourself is perfectly OK too.

As long as you truly believe, then you are truly on your way to healing.

Gastric Cancer Survival Rate

It is unfortunate that the gastric cancer survival rate has not much improved despite the advancement and more research done to help eradicate the prevalence of stomach cancer amongst Americans. In fact, this cancer is still the 2nd most common cause of cancer mortality.

Fortunately, cases of this cancer have decreased dramatically during the past years as well. Stomach cancer was once the 2nd most common cancer worldwide but with the growing number of people beginning to see the benefits of a healthy food lifestyle, the number of cases already declined.

Statistical reports show that gastric cancer survival rate tend to be quite higher in African American women at 24% compared to the rest, although Caucasian women is following close at 23%. African American men have lower rate at 21% while Caucasian Americans have the lowest at 19%. Generally, there isn't a very substantial gap between these percentages so it doesn't greatly affect people in terms of racial differences.

A 5 year gastric cancer survival rate will refer to the percentage of patients with cancer of the gastric organ who are still alive after 5 years. In most cases, the doctors will simply looked into the records of those who had been diagnosed with this cancer 5 years beforehand and determine how much percentage of those people remained living today. Included in the study are the treatment processes, lifestyle modifications, emotional support and other factors that may be the reason for the patients' continued health. The rates of survival are based on patients who have been given treatment. There has been no established record of the survival rates of patients who didn't undergo treatment but it may be expected lower than those who did.

As what was mentioned earlier, gastric cancer survival rate has not much improved on the recent years. Out of 5 patients, only one survivor remains living 5 years after the diagnosis was confirmed and treatment was properly given.

A stomach cancer that has not yet spread out will have a more agreeable percentage of survival compared to those whose cancer has already proliferated to its surrounding tissues. This is true to most cancer cases because a cancer that is confined is easier to control and remove than a cancer that has invaded a wider scope of coverage.

Until now, studies are still being conducted to increase the rate of survival of patients with cancer of the stomach. The medical field is looking into the use of preoperative and post-operative chemoradiation to increase the chances as well as other treatment adequate to help combat this disease.

Fighting Cancer Using Natural Herbs

Cancer has become a global epidemic for decades. More and more people are suffering from this disease every year. Most of them are citizens of developing or under-developed nations. They lack information and knowledge on how dangerous cancer really is, and they also do not have sufficient access to get proper medication.

On the other hand, those who are undergoing chemical therapies are often troubled with thoughts of the potential side effects of their treatments. Conventional cancer treatments usually result in side effects such as hair loss, extreme fatigue, digestive problems, and even weakened immune system. Even after they are cured, it would take a long time for them to recover to their normal state.

Scientists are still trying hard to find a new kind of medication that can cure cancer without producing any adverse effects. They have set their eyes on more natural substances: herbs. Some of them are believed, and have been tested, to effectively fight cancer. This new type of cancer medication opens up a whole new range of possibilities.

Some herbs that are believed to have anti-cancer properties are widely available. A lot of people do not even realize that some of the herbs they consume everyday possess these properties. Here are some examples of therapeutic herbs you can easily find anywhere.

Green tea is a popular beverage in Eastern Asia. In their book "Prescription for Nutritional Healing," experts James F. Balch, MD, and Phyllis A. Balch, CNC claim that the regular consumption of green tea can prevent the onset of cancer. Green tea is also believed to have an ability to reduce cholesterol levels, and also to fight against bacteria and viruses.

The red clover is believed to have therapeutic properties as well. According to Michael Castleman in his book "The Healing Herbs," this plant is proven effective to reduce and prevent the formation of tumours. Its reputation to treat cancer is known by more than 33 cultures. Scientists are still investigating other potential properties that this herb might possess.

The third is Echinacea. This plant is widely known by Indian or Native American tribes to treat snake bites or wounds. Recent studies indicate that Echinacea is effective to treat leukaemia (blood cancer) and also tumours.

There are other therapeutic herbs still under investigation by scientists and experts. Hopefully in the future, with this ground breaking discovery, it is possible to completely cure cancer without producing any side effects.

Bladder Cancer Survival Rates - Know Your Chances By Stage

Like many cancer cases of any types, the bladder cancer survival rate is relatively higher if the patient is treated and cured at the earliest stage of the disease. As the disease progresses and the cancer cells have penetrated a larger portion of your bladder, prognosis goes down to the drain as well. By stage 4 of the disease, your bladder cancer survival rate may still be too low despite adequate treatment regimen and successful surgeries.

By definition, bladder cancer is the type of cancer in your urinary bladed affecting more than 70,000 lives in the US. Each year, bladder cancer takes about 14,000 American lives. The good thing is, this cancer is amongst those types of cancer that are easily detected at the early stages so there are more chances of curing it before it worsens. The signs and symptoms of this cancer may already be felt at its early stage that is why more people are able to seek medical advice and get properly screened and diagnosed of the disease. But more than ever, it is the early treatment that really influences the patient's bladder cancer survival rate.

According to a report released by the National Cancer Institute, SEER Data Base for the year 1988-2001, patients are likely to live up to 5 years or more than that if cure has been given while the cancer is at its first stage, which is Stage 0. The survival rate at this stage is up to 98%, which is slightly higher than most cancers at the same stage. However, similar to other cancer cases and despite the fact that this cancer is an easily-detected cancer, not all patients are able to see the symptoms as early as stage 0. Therefore, not all patients are given the chance for an early treatment.

At stage 1 (which is actually the second stage of bladder cancer), your rate of surviving may be down to 10 percent lower from the first stage. If the spread of your cancer at this stage has not reached maximum yet proper treatment has already been started, your bladder cancer survival rate may slightly go up to 92%.

Stage 2 and stage 3 are the stages where there is an increase proliferation rate and your cancer cells may eat up your healthy cells faster than they do on the previous stages. Therefore, the rate of surviving may be substantially decreased. From the same report by the National Cancer Institute, your survival rate is around 63% for stage 2 and 46% on stage 3 even with treatment.

Stage 4 is where the cancer metastasize and may affect surround vital organs like the ovaries, reproductive system, kidneys, pelvic bones, etc. In some cases, the coccyx or the bottommost part of your spinal cord may also be affected, leading to severe nervous function on those parts. Survival rate at this stage is around 15-20 percent.

Use Zeolite to Prevent Cancers!

This awful disease known as cancer has so many faces and so many forms, that it can destroy us mentally even when thinking about it. The cancer treatments are rough on the body, and they rarely actually cure the disease, being more of a ray of hope for the patients.

The causes for cancer malignancies are still unknown, but one thing is known for sure... that being heavy metals and toxins from the environment encourage a lot more the development of these unhealthy cells. Our best chance against cancer malignancies is only prevention, because when confronted with the disease, there are fewer chances of getting better. In conclusion, our duty is to always take care and eliminate whatever might trigger this disease.

As said before, heavy metals and toxins are the principal allies of cancers, and we have to do anything we can to prevent these accumulate in our bodies. This is possible only through a detoxing or chelation method.

Many of the chelation methods available on the market these days are extremely invasive, come with side-effects that are difficult to be handled by the body, and even bring some new harmful compounds in the body. The only method that hasn't any of these effects is the liquid zeolite detoxification method.

The mineral zeolite, especially processed and activated so that it is effective and harmless in the human body, attracts all the heavy metals and toxins which are positively charged (and mostly of these are), trapping them in its honeycomb structure and eliminating them through urine and sweat. Imagine the zeolite structure is a magnet that travels through your bloodstream, gathering all that's harmful and leaving behind other compounds your body needs and are negatively charged. In conclusion, what's necessary for the body to function remains in its place, while what's causing the body to be sick, gets out together with the zeolite. This is why liquid zeolite is considered to be the most effective form of detoxification available. And also, this is why zeolite is considered to be a great ally in the fight against cancer. Think about it... without a proper environment and favorable causes, the unhealthy cancerous cells are unable to develop.

You have to understand, of course, that zeolite is not a miraculous cure against cancer. Such thing doesn't exist yet. But you have to understand that prevention is the best cure, and when it comes to prevention, there's nothing better than zeolite. It can also be used as a help for the other traditional cancer treatments, since it creates a healthy setting inside the body.

You can go with zeolite without any doubt; it won't trigger any kind of side-effects! All the people who have tried it are amazed by its effects and by the way they feel after using it. It will make you feel energized, healthy and even happier, since it is known to lift up the mood. There are methods to protect ourselves from cancers and other diseases! It is our duty to find out which these methods are, and take action against them!

If you want to know more about the fight against cancer, using zeolite and other natural supplements don't hesitate to visit us! Make health your main concern!

Optimizing Chemotherapy

It is important to note that standard cancer treatments (surgery, chemo/radiation) can always be optimized and improved and many examples exist of life enhancing advancements for almost every type of cancer.

Since the genetic subtypes of each cancer usually have varying prognoses and responses to treatment, so it is important to determine the specific subtype for each patient. The subtypes of most cancers are determined by the types of cell surface proteins (immunophenotyping) and the chromosomal changes (translocations).

Therefore, it is fundamental that the treatment you engage in is optimized for your particular molecular signature and not just the most common form of treatment available in your area.

The following section shows how the standard treatment for Acute Myeloid Leukemia can be optimized.

The Five-year survival for standard AML treatment with 7+3 (cytarabine & daunorubicin) varies from 15-70% and relapse rates vary from 78-33%, depending on the genetic subtype.

The effectiveness the standard treatment (referred to as 7+3) has on patients with specific genetic signatures is indicated below.

The prognostic chromosomal rearrangements for standard treatment of AML (7+3) are as follows:

Good Prognosis:

AML cases with chromosomal rearrangements such as t(8;21), t(15;17), inv(16) have a five-year survival rate of 70% and a relapse rate of 33%.

Intermediate Prognosis:

AML cases with chromosomal rearrangements such as normal, +8, +21, +22, del(7q), del(9q) or abnormal 11q23, have a five year survival rate of 48% and a relapse rate of 50%.

Poor Prognosis:

AML cases with chromosomal rearrangements such as -5, -7, del(5q), abnormal 3q or complex cytogenetics, have a five-year survival rate of 15% and a relapse rate of 78%.

As you can see, the outlook for patients with poor prognosis rearrangements is not good. The next section outlines a significant improvement in treating these patients.

Concerns with Standard Treatment for AML Patients Harbouring Abnormal Chromosome 3q:

Genetically, AML is a heterogeneous disease with 40% of cases based on primary chromosome translocations or inversions that encode fusion proteins.

Based on cytogenetic and immune based data, patients with an abnormal 3q chromosome most likely have the MEL1S fusion protein driving their disease. The loss of the p53 tumor suppressor gene usually accompanies this genetic rearrangement. Since the standard treatment was not designed to target cells expressing this fusion protein, it is unlikely to achieve remission in this case.

Furthermore, the 7+3 regime is only effective when the chemotherapeutic agents are combined in a specific ratio. Since the genes that metabolize these agents as well as individual patient's health varies greatly, maintaining this narrow therapeutic window is challenging.

Improvements to Treatment for AML (Optimized Chemotherapy):

In CPX-351,cytarabine and daunorubicin are encapsulated within liposomes in a 5:1 ratio, allowing for the synergistic drug ratio to be maintained in the blood plasma for 24 hours post-injection, which is a significant improvement.

Results from pre-clinical studies have shown that despite using sub-MTD daunorubicin doses, CPX-351 exhibited superior therapeutic activity, maintenance of synergistic drug ratios in bone marrow, and high proportions of long-term survivors compared to standard free-drug cocktails.

Significance:

The significance of this example is that it indicates how a simple variation in a common procedure, such as maintaining a synergistic 5:1 drug ratio, results in superior therapeutic activity, maintenance of synergistic drug ratios in bone marrow, and high proportions of long-term survivors compared to standard free-drug cocktails.

While this variation may not appear significant in long-term management of AML, it is important to note that with every therapeutic approach and type of cancer examined, we have identified many similar examples of life enhancing updates and improvements.

Healing Cancer Versus Fighting It - The Story Of George (A Case Study)

I fervently challenge the statement that cancer is a killer disease. Furthermore, I will demonstrate that cancer is not a disease at all. Many people who received a 'terminal' cancer sentence actually defied the prognosis and experienced complete remission.

George, my first kidney cancer patient was one of them. His doctors at one of the most prestigious university hospitals in Germany had just 'given' him three more weeks to live when he sought me out for help. According to them, his cancer was too advanced and widespread to consider having treatments of chemotherapy or radiation.

George had lost one of his kidneys to cancer one year earlier. After emerging from the operating room, his doctors gave him a 'clean bill of health'. They used the famous 'we got it all' expression, which made a lot of sense to George; after all, they had removed the tumor, along with the entire kidney. Nevertheless, several months later his second kidney also started filling up with cancer, and the only 'reasonable' advice they had for him was to take care of his personal affairs.

Fortunately for George, he didn't die. In total defiance of the death sentence that his doctors had given him, George felt that there should be something else he could do to at least extend his life by a few months. Within a mere three weeks of dealing with the causes of his illness, the cancer receded to a tiny speck, and during his next major check-up at the German cancer clinic six months later, was nowhere to be found! Fifteen years later, George still enjoys a state of perfect health, with no indication of a malfunctioning kidney.

I had given George neither a diagnosis nor a prognosis. What would have been the point of telling him how bad and hopeless his situation was? Besides, a doctor's 'objective' statement that his patient's cancer is terminal (leading to his death) is actually a purely subjective viewpoint of a highly unpredictable situation. The doctor ties his so convincing and final judgment largely to past observations he has made with previous patients who suffered from similar symptoms. All this judgment does, however, is rule out the chance of recovery as a result of undergoing alternative treatments unknown to the treating physician. Just because the relatively young Western system of medicine does not know how to treat cancer successfully, does not imply that the ancient forms of medicine are helpless, too.

In orthodox medicine, patients are not encouraged to expect a spontaneous remission of their cancer. Doctors want to avoid giving them 'false' hope, if there can be such a thing as false hope. Either there is hope or there is none, but hope cannot be wrong or false. The future is not written in stone. Nobody in this world can predict with complete certainty what is going to happen in the near or distant future. One may come up with a good guess of what the most likely probabilities might be, but none of these carry the stamp of absolute certainty. A young man with an extremely rare and inoperable large brain tumor, whose story was recently documented on prime time live television in the US, defied the prognosis of a very short life and continues to live quite actively and healthily several years afterward. He even got married recently.

To avoid the complications that arise from diagnosing diseases, such as making a person believe he is a helpless victim of some sort, I merely encouraged and motivated George to attend to the various factors responsible for causing and promoting cancer growth in the first place. Subsequently, his body naturally started to take care of the details, which included removing the symptom, cancer, in this case-a rather minor feat once the causes of the cancer were no longer present.

The total remission of George's cancer was neither the result of curing what appeared to be a horrible, self-perpetuating disease, nor was it a miracle. It was a simple process of giving back to the body what it needed to return to its most natural and normal state of balance. George merely ended the reasons why his body needed to fight for its life. As simple as it sounds, he healed himself by taking responsibility for all aspects of his life, including his body. The lesson that can be learned from George's experience is that true healing requires you to stop fighting; for fighting is what actually prevents a true cure.

Implications of Diet and Nutrition in Cancer

Thoughts on diet and nutrition for cancer generally

In dealing with a diagnosis of cancer, it is generally agreed that diet can be a major influence. Perhaps a simple rule is best, albeit difficult, to follow in a daily routine and that is the rule of consuming only whole foods. Whole foods are those made up of only themselves. No combinations such as in cake, biscuits and bread for example. Single, whole foods such as vegetables, fruits and unprocessed meats. Foods packed with nutrients, vitamins and minerals. We have been after all, (probably) used to a diet of eating pretty much what ever we wanted and when we wanted. Is this then, one of the many reasons, that we have arrived at this sorry place?

To get the best nutrient efficiency now, the rules have to change. Some foods are going to be "in" our daily routine, and some will have to, necessarily, be dropped. The things that we eat vary in their capacity to support our immune systems by being nutrient and mineral and vitamin rich, and some foods, including manufactured foods contain no such benefits (or at least so few that it actually costs the immune system, energy to process them). Many foods today are constructed with natural carcinogens, such as smoked or pickled goods that exacerbate colon cancer and bowel cancer in particular. Others have carcinogens called pro-carcinogens such as saccharin or artificial colors, nitrates and nitrites. Some fats and deep fried foods are particularly unhelpful, but the risk can be augmented through supplementation of such vitamin and minerals as vitamin D and calcium.

Naturally, it goes without saying that cigarette smoke should be avoided and yes, unfortunately for some, alcohol and sugary drinks are out as well. There is enough research available today to make us all aware that cigarette smoke is carcinogenic and certainly will not allow us to heal from cancer

Lifestyle changes required

At first the changes asked for, appear to be overwhelming and it is quite natural for people to say such things as "I can't possibly go with out my smokes and a drink after work. I'd rather be dead." Well, they probably will be well on their way towards achieving their wishes unless some changes often drastic changes, are made. Of course it is hard! Of course it's a push! But what is it that we're striving for here? We're not trying to gain a glittering prize. We're not trying to enhance our fortune or buy a new car - we're trying to live! This is life! We're throwing ourselves on the mercy of God's court and asking for life! Extended life maybe. Fore-shortened a few years, maybe, but life with our family, our wives and husbands and partners. Life extended with our children and their children. Surely we can eat vegetables to achieve that? Surely the fruits we eat now, will taste, just that much better in the knowledge it supports our life's unity? Why wouldn't we take responsibility for our extended life when it means so much?

There are many causes of cancer and rarely just a single cause of cancer and these occur internally and externally, but primarily, change occurs to the cell's DNA. Most would agree, no doubt, that it is a multi faceted occurrence, with poor lifestyle choices, including diet as one of those many layers. It makes sense then, to put into practice, those changes we can immediately effect and diet is one such option. No one is saying that one particular type of food is a cause, and no one particular food is a cure, simply that some help and others hinder.

Among the foods that hinder are hormonally treated meat such as in some poultry, pork and beef. Some foods have been irradiated and other sprayed with carcinogenic sprays, ethalyine dibromide being one. Fresh is best, try to obtain locally grown, fresh fruit and vegetables and avoid bruised or mouldy foods.

Some studies have indicated that high insulin levels may be a factor in poor cancer survival. The growth hormone IGF-1 which is increased due to a high body mass index, lack of exercise or high stress levels and cancer, have been linked in several studies. Most of us recognize those foods that encourage the production of insulin, high starch, high sugar, breads, cakes, biscuits and even potatoes. Yes, even the good old spud in all it's forms, give it the flick, at least for now.

Diet and supplements

So what can be eaten? In a word, whole foods, but more importantly, foods that are known to active in cancer prevention, such as cabbage, broccoli, eggplant, wheat sprouts lettuce and spinach. Brussels sprouts are particularly good for protection from breast cancer, lung cancer and bowel cancers. Most berries, blueberries, raspberries, cherries and blackberries are perfect foods. Some fruits, such as green apples and pineapple.

It can be seen from this list, which is in no way exhaustive, that the common denominator is a high nutritional content. Supplementation of vitamins such as A, C, and E and bioflavonoid is recommended in many cases, but also the correct combination of certain foods. Take advice from a nutritionist or naturopath here and be guided by their expert opinion. We included ginger, mint leaf and wheat sprouts in our daily diet regime as well as the dietary changes that I have indicated, most are still in my daily routine. For a time, I increased fibre intake through the consumption of old fashioned grains such as oats. I was guided here by my naturopath and biologist friend, Bill Giles who encouraged a diet free from grains entirely.

"Lectin proteins are the only other major chemical group that occurs in all types of grains, and is involved with immune defence. It is probable that our immune system expends resources to inactivate this protein, and when we are chronically ill, we need all the immune resources we can muster to overcome pathogens and/or disruptive chemicals that may be contributing to our illness." (Giles 2000)

We added garlic and onion to our diet and supplemented with acidophilus fibre and lactobacillus. Some studies I noted, advise that a supplementation of iodine reduces the risk of breast, endometrial and ovarian cancers. To this day, we include, cold pressed, organic flax seed oil in our diet. Make sure that the flax seed oil that you purchase, has been refrigerated and stored out of the sunlight.

I still use the marvelous mixture called Swedish Bitters, foul tasting, but in my opinion, good for everything, especially enhancing the body's ability to manufacture digestive enzymes.

There is terrific discussion surrounding the use of Soy. I have no advice to offer on the subject except to say that we used it and I still do occasionally and have consumed it now for nearly two decades with no apparent side effects. Ask your nutritionist and be guided by them. Increasing the intake of soy products increases the intake of isoflavones.

Curcumin (in Turmeric) enhances the action of isoflavones. Eat button, shitake, Reishe and Maitake mushrooms, Brussell sprouts, broccoli, green apples, apricots and cherries, Roma tomato, pink grapefruit and watermelon which is rich in lycopene which works against breast and prostate cancers. Supplement with pancreatic enzymes.

Consume 1 Table spoon of flax oil combined well with 2 table spoons of cottage cheese (or quark) per (23 kg or)50lb./body weight /day (Allan 2001) This is an recipe known as the Budwig Diet, used in the traditional and alternate treatment of cancer, developed by Doctor Johana Budwig in the early part of last century. Google it and judge for yourself.

These changes were made to assist Donna (http://www.cancercauseandeffect.com) to manage her Liver cancer, but the type of cancer makes little difference in my opinion and I know people who have breast cancer, colon cancer, stomach and prostate cancer and many other types of immune illnesses including heart disease, who have all benefited from making changes to their lifestyle and eating habits. You have a great deal to lose and a tremendous amount to gain.

I am John Allan, until next time, good luck and may your God watch over you.

Benefits of Broccoli - It Can Slow Cancer Growth

Yet another reason why eating your veggies, particularly broccoli, is so good for you. Research has identified a compound in broccoli that can block a defective gene that is related to the growth of cancer tumors. In other words one of the benefits of broccoli is it can effectively slow cancer growth.

Earlier work has shown the cancer fighting potential in this crunchy, leafy green as well as its veggie cousins cauliflower and watercress. Experts have known for some time that these foods appear to bring down the risk of some cancers, and that compounds in the veggies can even kill some cancer cells, but how it all worked remained a mystery. Until now.

A new study has identified compounds known as isothiocyanates (ITCs) in the cruciferous vegetable family including broccoli, that appear to block what's known as mutant p53 genes that are related to cancer growth. This gene is a tumor suppressor and seems to play a big part in helping cells stay healthy and safe from cancer, but when should this gene become damaged (or mutates) it can't provide this protection.

Mutations to the p53 gene are implicated in almost half of all cancers in humans.

The effects of ITCs on gene p53 were studied for different human cancer cells in the lab. Researchers found that ITCs were able to remove the damaged versions of the p53 gene, while bypassing the healthy genes. Cells with mutated p53 genes are also able to resist many chemical cancer treatments. The potential for new medications based on these findings are intriguing.

Science knows that isothiocyanates help to prevent cancer in three ways...

1. They don't let carcinogens get activated.

2. They counter the poisonous effects of carcinogens that have been activated.

3. They speed the removal of carcinogens from the body.

Broccoli does have an especially large amount of isothiocyanates as well as other valuable nutrients like fiber, vitamin C, calcium and other carotenoids. It's one of the most commonly eaten members of the cruciferous family, and is being widely studied. This veggie, like most, is at its best when prepared on the day it is purchased, eaten raw or cooked; it's delicious and good for you too.

Members of the cruciferous (also known as the cabbage) family add a whole lot of crunch and flavor to all kinds of foods, things like coleslaw, veggie stir-fry, soups, stews and salads. If the taste is too bitter, consider preparing your veggies differently, such as slow cooking or adding lemon or vinegar to the mix.

Beyond eating lots of these veggies, you can help protect yourself from cancer by making healthy lifestyle choices. Exercise regularly. Don't smoke or drink alcohol to excess. Protect yourself in the sun. Learn all you can about carcinogens in the environment and do what you can to limit your own exposure. And most important of all, be sure to have all the exams and screening tests your doctor recommends, as these can, and do, save lives.

If future studies confirm the findings on isothiocyanates and cancer this very well might pave the way for new treatments to slow cancer growth.

MRI for Cancer Diagnosis and Evaluation

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has proven to be a very important tool for discovering many forms of cancer. From diagnosis to evaluating the efficacy of treatment, visualizing a tumor allows physicians to gather real-time information about the behavior of a specific cancer.

Magnetic resonance imaging uses magnets and radio waves to move electrons in human tissue which allows the tissue to be visualized. As each tissue in the body has a specific frequency that can be detected, each tissue produces a specific resonance that can be collected and formed into an image. Fatty tissues and muscular tissues produce different frequencies when placed in a magnetic field, so each of these tissues will have a distinct pattern of resonance. Those patterns are transformed into an image by converting these frequencies into visual patterns. This also allows normal tissues to be differentiated from abnormal tissues. Normal bone and muscles will appear dissimilar than those with tumors. As there is no radiation with an MRI, these tests can be performed as often as needed without affecting a patient's overall body exposure to radiation. This can be very important in those patients that may be utilizing radiation for the treatment of their tumor.

Some tumors have a specific appearance on an MRI that allows physicians to make a diagnosis immediately. These diagnostic criteria may relate to the visual patterns of the tissue or to the specific location of the tumor in an organ. MRI scans provide a more accurate diagnostic tool for soft-tissue tumors than does x-ray imaging or CT scanning. Tumors that evolve purely from muscles, tendons or nerves will be seen on a CT scan as a mass, while the MRI is able to show the nature of the mass and distinguish the mass from the surrounding tissues. In cases where the tumor has leaked from a bone structure, the MRI will provide visual images of the extent of the tumor into the soft-tissues surrounding the bone. These images give the physician more accurate information about the expansion of a tumor from its original site. Soft-tissue sarcomas, lipomas, blood vessel tumors and nerve tumors are well-visualized on an MRI. The MRI may also help to determine if the tumor is benign or malignant by its pattern or growth.

MRI is very helpful in differentiating tumors from fractures in bone by their specific patterns of fat and water content. As patients with cancers can lose their bone mass, making the bones more fragile. Fractures may occur from minor incidents, like coughing or sitting down too hard and sometimes patients cannot remember a specific incident. Patients with cancer can develop pain in bones from either a fracture or a new tumor. Defining whether a finding on an x-ray or CAT scan is a new tumor or a fracture can be done with an MRI. Generally, tumors are seen where there is good blood supply in the bone. Knowing the location of the arteries that supply nutrition to the bones helps to determine the most likely pattern of a tumor deposited there. Particularly in metastatic tumors, if some of the tumor's cells are able to enter the bloodstream, they will travel to portions of the body that filter the blood. At these filter areas, tumor cells will get stuck and start to form a new site for the original tumor (metastasis). As this pattern of spread is blood-flow related, these new tumors will grow in those areas where the greatest blood flow occurs. Fractures however, occur where the bone is weakest. This pattern is where the blood flow is least, or the least amount of nutrition is getting to the bone. These patterns allow physicians to make a determination about the likelihood of a specific finding on an MRI to be related to a tumor or a fracture.

MRI has long been used in orthopaedics for diagnosis and treatment of bone, tendon and cartilage disorders. This technology can also be very beneficial to the diagnosis and treatment of tumors that arise from any tissue in the body, from brain to bone. Because it adds a more accurate picture of the tissue in a particular mass, MRI is not just for orthopedics anymore.

Exploring an Advanced Mind-Body Model Rooted In Immunotherapy and Psychoneuroimmunology (PNI)

What is Immersive Healing?

Immersive-Healing is an immunotherapeutic mind-body approach to healing cancer. It is based on three basic premises:

1. The body's natural immune-system is designed to defend against all illnesses, cancer included.

2. Harmful states of mind (primarily anger, guilt, shame, etc.) can suppress the immune system.

3. If these harmful states of mind can be resolved and cleansed, the immune response can be revived and cancer prevented or healed.

In essence, all healing is self-healing, and at the root of every healing process is the decision to be in control of this process.

Healing cannot take place before unresolved emotional imprint from the past are addressed. Otherwise, the internal subconscious calling for self-punishment, mutilation or limitation will continue.

In order for the healing of the body to take place, we need to have a healing of the mind.

Part of what defines us as human-beings is that we are emotional beings, capable of expression. Sometimes, though, it seems safer to suppress hurts and pains rather than express them. It can be overwhelming, or even a bit frightening to open up and let go of our anxieties, fears, anger and resentment or even admit to their existence.

From a mind-body perspective, suppressed and unresolved emotional conflicts and trauma, compounded over the years, build an internal pressure. Any illness, including chronic disease, can be caused, worsen or aggravated by this internal pressure.

The by-product of the internal pressure is self-limiting beliefs, distorted self-image and emotional pain which translate via the natural mind-body connection into the environment within the physical body.

A body functioning in such a stressful internal environment is likely to develop and experience a state of physical disease.

To facilitate and promote self-healing of these psychological factors, two powerful, dynamic and therapeutic tools, hypnotherapy and Neuro-Linguistic Programming, have been combined.

These techniques have been around for some time, and have proved effective individually. However, integrated into one healing modality, their efficacy increases.

In a session, a person will learn to develop a deep state of focused attention, a state where the mind is sharp, focused and alert while the body may feel deeply relaxed. In this state, work is done on a subconscious level and the mind is free to review and identify specific emotions, harmful imprints, moments in time, and circumstances which may have contributed to the development or expression of the disease.

Immersive-Healing can be practiced best in two ways which support the body as it heals. First, practiced in conjunction with conventional medical treatment, Immersive-Healing can enhance the effectiveness of the medical treatment. Second, when preceding medical treatment, it can lessen the amount of conventional medicine needed.

In both cases, the goal of this process is to help identify, resolve and cleanse the psychological factors suppressing the natural immune defenses of the body. Resolving and cleansing these factors, the natural innate tendency of the body toward health kicks in and healing can finally take place.

Pancreatic Cancer Survival Rate - Know Your Chances

Pancreatic cancer survival rate indicates the number or percentages of people who were able to extend their lives 5 years of more after they were diagnosed with cancer of the pancreas. A long time ago, cancer survival rates are measured in a 10 year period but recently statistical reports have lessened their time periods into 5 years. Patients who were under this study are those suffering from pancreatic cancer - whether or not they have shown symptoms but are still receiving treatment for this disease.

Medical professionals continually inform the public that it is unwise to predict your life expectancy period based on these survival rate charts. They may be used as basis, but since there are no 2 or more patients with the exact same case, it is still advisable to maintain an uplifted spirit and continue the prayers.

There are some factors that may highly affect the Pancreatic Cancer Survival Rate and they are as follows:

Surgery - whether the tumor is removed or not

Stages - the earlier the stage, the higher chances of survival

General Health Condition - patients undergoing chemotherapy will drastically decrease the functionality of their immune system, therefore, those who are already unhealthy even before being diagnosed are at risks of getting more diseases during the treatment. Also, there are patients who may not be able to survive surgery due to existing lung and heart diseases in addition to old age

Recurrent - if the cancer is recurrent, there is a lesser chance of survival

EmedTv have released a relative report of the Pancreatic Cancer Survival Rate in the US and it is not exactly something one could smile about. Since the pancreas is one of the most vital organs in the body, in some books even more important than the liver, the Pancreatic Cancer Survival Rate is one of the lowest amongst all types of cancer.

The general average of people surviving this cancer is only at 15-20%. Below is the percentage of patients who were able to survive 5 years after confirmed diagnosis:

? At stage 1, there were only 16.4 percent of patients who survived
? At stage 2 and 3, there were only 7 percent of patients who survived
? At stage 4, there were only 1.8 percent of patients who survived
? For patients whose cancer stage was unknown or was not precisely confirmed, there were only 4.3 percent of patients who survived

Prevent Cancer By Changing Your Lifestyle

Unhealthy lifestyle is one of the many causes of cancer. One of the easiest things you can do to prevent cancer from happening is to adopt a healthy lifestyle. You can easily find tips and information regarding healthy living on the internet. Here is a list of preventative measures you can take in order to help protect yourself from cancer.

1. High fiber foods are essential for cancer prevention. Fiber can help decrease the risk of cancer. Start consuming foods that are high on fiber such as fresh vegetables, fruit and grains regularly.

2. Avoid obesity. Some researches show that obesity increases the risk of cancer, especially breast, uterus, colon, kidney and gall bladder cancers.

3. Consume foods containing vitamin A and C such as vegetables like broccoli and fruits like bananas, oranges, papayas, tomatoes, and mangoes. These foods are rich in antioxidant and can help prevent esophagus, larynx, lung and stomach cancers.

4. Cut down consumption of fatty foods such as fried foods and offal. Foods that are processed for long periods of at high temperatures are equally as bad.

5. Avoid cooking processes that can produce procarcinogen such as smoking, baking, roasting and overcooking your food. Avoid microwaving your foods as well. Boiling and steaming are the most preferable method of cooking.

6. Reduce the consumption of foods containing artificial sweeteners and food coloring as well as those with preservatives.

7. Consume more vegetables which are members of the cabbage family such as broccoli, cabbage, and cauliflower. These vegetables can protect you from stomach and respiratory cancers. Broccoli is known as a 'super food' and is known to prevent cancer.

8. Stop smoking and keep away from alcoholic drinks. Smoking can potentially cause lung cancer.

9. Always consume clean foods. Make sure you wash raw foods before you consume them to get rid of harmful chemical substances and pollutants.

10. Add garlic to your cooking. It contains sulfur compounds that potentially reduce tumor growth and stimulate the immune system to fight against cancer.

11. Consider adding strawberries or blueberries to your morning cereal. Berries are rich in antioxidant which helps neutralize free radicals that will potentially damage body cells and lead to cancer.

12. Exercise regularly. Exercising helps improve circulation, ward off stress and reduce the risk of cancer.

13. Stress can trigger cancer as well. While avoiding stress seems impossible, you can minimize it by exercising, engaging in relaxing activities, or interacting with other people.

Oral Sex And Cancer Risk - The Viral Link

By Alain Lafeuillade Platinum Quality Author Alain Lafeuillade

Most people think about sexually transmitted diseases whenever they assess the risks of oral sex, but new studies show that there may be much more to fear than that. Scientists in the United States have recently determined that there may be a possible link between oral sex and cancer risk in the oral cavity, providing a whole new reason to promote sexual education and awareness. The studies indicate that this risk mainly rises for white men, but there are possibilities of issues across the board. This is a serious problem that is currently under serious investigation.

Oral cancer cases have grown 225% from 1974 to 2007, and the main factor that scientists could link to the new victims is the number of sex partners involved in oral practices they had prior to developing cancer. Oral sex allows for the passing of the human papillomavirus, or HPV. This can lead to the onset of many common STDs, as well as many forms of vaginal, penile, anal, or oral cancers. 40 of the 150 different types of HPV can be passed through sexual intercourse in one way or another, so the spreading of oral ractices and cancel risk go hand in hand.

The US Centers for Disease Control have estimated that more than half of the adult population in America will have some form of HPV in their lives. Some cases may not ever develop into anything, but others could be severe and sometimes fatal. There are some vaccines available now to help prevent the contraction of HPV, but only 40% of the female population in the country has gone through any sort of treatment at this point. Even fewer have actually made it through all three doses of the treatment, and that raises oral sex and cancer risk levels higher than ever before.

It is important in the coming years that more members of the population get the HPV vaccine. This is especially true for the younger sector of the population, as oral sex and cancer risk seem to impact them more than other generations. People with more than six oral sex partners in their life are eight times more at risk of developing a form of cancer from oral sex than those who have a limited number of partners. Proper education in schools and the public as a whole should help to diffuse the growing number of cancer patients in the United States and Europe.

Cancer and Bad Emotion

There has been a growing understanding these days that disease is not only a matter of body encountering physical problems, but disease is also a problem of intangible things like emotion. Emotion actually has a great part in putting our health in good balance. This is not only true for emotion derived diseases like depression or other psychosomatic symptoms, but this is mostly true for almost every disease, also for cancer.

A study conducted by researchers in John Hopkins University in Washington D.C. found out that cancer cells can grow rapidly in bad emotions. The study said that cancer cells grow tremendously in an acidic environment. Anger, hatred, unforgiving, and other bad emotions actually set up human body in this kind of acidic environment. Thus, keeping up those negative feeling actually put cancer patients in danger of cancer cell's growth. This is also true for non cancer patients; because in reality every person has cancer cells, but to be called as patient means that your body has developed enough amounts of detectable cancer cells. Anyhow, negative feelings can lead a normal person into a state of bad health, be it cancer or other disease.

Long before studies suggest that cancer and emotions might relate to each other, doctors have coined a term called placebo effect. Doctors found out long time ago that when a patient is given only some candies, but being disguised as medicines, and that patient believe that he or she will be cured by that medicine, he or she will show the same result of other patient that is given real medicine. This is what doctors later called as placebo effect: an effect of belief. Placebo effect has indeed shown how good emotion can actually lead someone to health just only by believing it. This is not meant to say that once you keep your mood on positive track then you will survive from cancer, but it suggests that positive emotions is very vital in keeping your health, and also to improve your health.

So, why wasting your time now to feel bad if only by feeling positive you get more benefit? Start feeling happy and be positive about your life and your body. Even if you do not have a good health right now, go out and smile and believe that you will be cured. That along with real medicines and good diet will bring you in that good health in no time.

HIV And Anal Cancer

By Alain Lafeuillade Platinum Quality Author Alain Lafeuillade
Level: Platinum

MD, PhD Chief, department of Infectious Diseases, General Hospital, Toulon, France

Rectal (or anal) cancer is actually a fairly rare cancer. In fact, about 1 in 100,000 people have rectal cancer. However, this type of cancer is far more prevalent in men who have sex with men (MSM). The rate of occurrence rises considerably: to 70-144 in 100,000 people. Why does rectal cancer occur more often in men who have sex with men? When one looks at the facts, it actually makes sense. The average man who has sex with men that is also HIV positive is twice as likely to develop anal cancer as one who is HIV negative. What is it about HIV that increases the risk of men who have sex with men?

Let's dig a little deeper. While HIV is one of many factors that increase the risk of anal cancer-including the same virus that causes genital warts-receptive anal sex is another factor. This is a common type of sexual intercourse among men who have sex with men, which is why MSM need to take additional precautions. Health professionals recommend that HIV-positive and other high-risk men be screened for anal cancer on a regular basis, including yearly exams and anal Pap smears. Rectal cancer is one of those cancers that are treatable if caught early.

A large percentage of anal cancer cases occur in people who have the human papillomavirus (HPV), the aforementioned virus that causes genital warts. Those who want to decrease the risk of developing anal cancer should also reduce their exposure to HPV; so that means they'll have to take the necessary precautionary measures, such as using condoms for every sexual encounter. Also, experts definitely agree on having HIV-positive men who have sex with men take regular anal Pap smears. The smears detect the cell changes that are indicative of anal cancer, and early detection is vital in order to get treatment started quickly to keep the cancer from progressing.

In short, rectal cancer can be prevented and treated, but it must be caught in time; in that sense, it's not unlike most other cancers. HIV-positive men who have sex with men are considered "high risk" due to the type of sex they often have, which leaves them at an increased risk of developing the disease. However, with regular condom usage and some diligence in getting tested on a regular basis, even high risk individuals can reduce the risk of rectal cancer.

Bladder Cancer Survival Rates - Factors That Will Increase or Decrease Your Survival Rate

Bladder cancer survival rates refer to the percentage of surviving up to a specific duration of time the moment your bladder cancer diagnosis is confirmed. Oftentimes, this is the first thing asked by the patients as soon as they're told of their disease. This is typical and as a medical practitioner, we are always ready to answer your questions and appropriately respond to your feeling of demise. However, before you start breaking down, there are several factors that influence your bladder cancer survival rate and by knowing them, you may easily know what things that could lower or increase your chances.

The following are some of the factors that greatly contribute to the decrease or increase of your bladder cancer survival rate.

Stage of Bladder Cancer
A standard survival rate chart for all cancer types is based on a survival period of 5 years. In many cases, patients who were diagnosed and treated at stages 0-1 are more likely to add 5 years more to their lives. At these stages, the bladder cancer survival rate can be as high as 98% and as low as 88%. Still, 88% is a lot higher than the survival rates for the rest of the stages. Like most cancer cases, your rate of survival may drastically go down as your disease progresses.

Treatment Regimen
Another element that may highly influence your rate of survival is the treatment plan you're about to undergo. A basic fact of medical treatment is that medical treatment is better than no treatment; however, no treatment is much better than the wrong one. In some cases, patients may be subjected to unnecessary treatment plan that may bring more chances of demise than curing the cancer. This is true for unseasoned surgeons and physicians. This is the reason why proper research is extremely necessary before entrusting yourself to an oncologist.

Accompanying Diseases
Most patients diagnosed with cancer are around 30-ish and above. A large portion of these patients are around 40 years of age. At this time, other diseases may already be experienced before the cancer is diagnosed and in some instances, these extra diseases are the main cause of the cancer. There are also recorded cases where it is not the cancer than led to the demise but the other disease, eg., Heart attack. Needless to say, the more diseases you have, the lesser chances for you to survive up to 5 years. Some doctors would even recommend that you lessen the severity of the other disease first before treatment proper for cancer is initiated. This is because chemotherapy or radiation therapy for cancer substantially lowers the immune system of a patient, thus, the patient is extremely vulnerable to getting more diseases or potentially increasing the severity of the other one.

Esophageal Cancer Survival Rate

An esophageal cancer survival rate is mostly based on a 5-year time period. It is the average percentage of a patient to survive the disease and live up to 5 years. Some cancers were measured to up to ten years but researchers are now using the 5-year time period as their basis.

Research shows that cancer of the esophagus is more prevalent among men and those aging more than 50 years of age.

In the recent years, there has not been a great improvement found in an esophageal cancer survival rate chart despite the newer advancement in the medical field. This is because cancer of the esophagus is not easily detected and sometimes may even be misdiagnosed due to the nature of its symptoms. In addition to this, this disease is slightly more fast-growing compared to the other types, therefore, even at first stage, the esophageal cancer survival rate is still pretty low.

At 70%, the esophageal cancer survival rate at stage 0 is extremely low compared to other cancers with about 90-100% rate of survival at the same stage. This percentage may even decreases as the disease transits between stages to stages. Like most cancer types, as the cancer progresses, so is the decrease of its survival percentage.

Stage 1
There are 5 stages of this cancer. After stage 0, stage 1 begins and the patient's rate of survival will significantly decrease by 10 percent. At this stage, the chance of survival is at 60% which is technically around 3 years after diagnosis.

Stage 2
If a patient is diagnosed to have stage 2 esophageal cancer, he/she will have at most 40% chance of living up to 5 years even with treatment.

Stage 3
Expect a much lower rate at stage 3, which is a stage when the cancer affects the surrounding lymph nodes, therefore lowering the esophageal cancer survival rate at 30 to 20 percent.

Stage 4
Stage 4 is the last and the most dangerous stage of most cancers. During this stage, your cancer may proliferate and affect other vital organs inside your peritoneum. Aside from the stomach, the cancer may extend towards the colon and the liver, tripling the severity level and lowering the percentage of survival to 10%.

The over-all survival rate of patients with cancer of the esophagus regardless of stage is 70% - still lower than most other cancer types. Therefore, a concern by many oncologists specializing in this part of the body.
